Ratings for Sworn to the Sword

It feels good to be doing ratings again, and Sworn to the Sword posted some good numbers: 1,980,000 viewers. Starting the #StevenBomb off right.

Immediate reaction to Rising Tides, Crashing Skies

Alright, not to spoil anything, but we didn’t get massive “whoa” content on a Tuesday. It’s good episode for a breather though. Great characterization for the Beach City residents though, as well as a fun fact about the monsters.

Definitely not a heavy episode though. Just Ronaldo being weird, which is exactly how he should be.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 25: Sworn to the Sword

PodcastTitleStevenBomb2GC13, Ken, and Dakota think that #StevenBomb2.0 is starting off on the right foot: if Sworn to the Sword is any indication of what we’re in store for, it’s going to be a great week (with a podcast episode every day!).

So of course the new opening (with its apparent anime influences) come up, as do the songs in the episode. Pearl’s claiming of being inspired by knighthood, a concept less than 2,000 years old, before the rebellion is also brought up. Is it an error, an indication of a rebellion that only happened after the Kindergarten was shut down, or does Pearl not keep close tabs on human culture?

The eagerness with which Pearl indoctrinated Connie was also rather hardcore. Perhaps you could say that Pearl was overzealous? (We’re saying it for her own good.)

Immediate reaction to Sworn for the Sword

Whew.

Sorry, we’re fine, we just need a moment. That was definitely a strong start to #StevenBomb2.0, and the new intro is just icing on the cake.

Well if you haven’t seen Sworn to the Sword you’re in for some serious lore treats. Though most of the story is very much focused on the present (even the future), there is some good history lesson content as well. Plus one thing that you might not notice but will jump out at you if you’re looking for it: the Pink Diamond theory just got another point in its favor.

#StevenBomb2.0 to feature new opening for show

stevenbomb2bCan you feel it? #StevenBomb2.0 is almost upon us. As if five new episodes in a week wasn’t big enough, the introductory text to this interview says that we’re going to be getting a brand new intro to the show! (Yes, it also says this is the second half of the season, but that’s a lot easier to be wrong about.)

It makes sense: after Reformed all of the Crystal Gems have new outfits to be featured in the opening. We’re starting #StevenBomb2.0 with the Crystal Gems 2.0

Now, does this make us less likely to see one of the three homeworld Gems we know about in the Crystal Gems 3.0? It’s hard to say. Obviously them holding off on making a change to the opening would be a good sign pointing to big changes soon, but the big question right now is if there are any new lyrics or if it’s just the outfits that have changed.

Preview for Sworn to the Sword

Cartoon Network has finally posted a preview for Sworn to the Sword with audio. Oh boy, we really like where this episode is going! Combined with the shots of it in the commercial (spoiler alert: quad-Holo-Pearl!), it looks like #StevenBomb2.0 is getting started off right.

This is going to be so cool!

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 24: Frybo

PodcastTitleGC13, Ken, and Dakota discuss the fifth episode of Steven Universe: Frybo. Ken and GC13 get right back to disagreeing—at least their first impressions of the episode disagreed, and that’s what we’re counting.

We get another mystery in Frybo: the origin of the gem shards. It’s certainly possible to make some educated guesses about how the gems came to be shattered, but so early in the series Steven isn’t willing to listen to even the sanitized history lesson Pearl offers, let alone the gritty real history.

It’s very interesting contrasting the older episodes with the newer ones, though. Steven has greatly grown as a character. If his job as a professional beach hunk never works out, at this rate he’ll have a great career in heroism ahead of him.

What could we see during #StevenBomb 2.0?

Ah, the calm before the storm: we know the faintest hints of what is coming (see the episode summaries here), but we all know from experience that Steven Universe episode summaries are only vaguely reliable for letting you know what to expect.

Sworn to the Sword will start the week off with a fairly normal-sounding plotline. The easy way to go with this would be to have Steven be jealous of Connie (the promo seems to indicate she’s quite good), but Steven doesn’t seem to be the jealous type. Besides, he knows he’s good: could Connie have defeated Holo-Pearl with the Boomerang Blade?

Of course if Rising Tides/Crashing Skies actually does feature the return of Malachite… No. No, that’s impossible. They would never schedule something so huge on a Tuesday. Would they? They might have just taken the next five episodes and put them all together, so we’re just going to have to see. If Malachite does show up, it’s going to be a hard act to follow.

Keeping It Together is probably the episode with the most suggestive title: it sure makes it sound like it’s going to involve Garnet having trouble staying fused, and since the episode summary mentions the Kindergarten you know it’s going to be a big deal.

We Need To Talk also says enough to give us an idea what the episode will be about, while being tight-lipped enough to be intriguing. Will we finally get to see the temple fusion form in action?

You get no points for guessing that Chille Tid won’t actually be about a slumber party—unless it’s a storytime episode like Garnet’s Universe, in which case it still won’t be about a slumber party, but at least they’ll be doing slumber party stuff in it.

Don’t forget: a new episode every day from June 15-19
