Have you seen the previews? This one has some potential. Perhaps not in Same Old World itself, but it should set us up for having another fountain of lore. That alone would be something to be excited about, but there’s also a chance that we could get a sentence or two about the modern Gem homeworld compared to how things were back in the old days. Since the Gem homeworld is kind of a big thing in our lore book right now, we have our fingers crossed.

GC13 and Sophia discuss the high-hype opening of the In Too Deep event: the two-parter of Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill.
Even if you had seen (most of) the Alexandrite vs Malachite fight thanks to Cartoon Network UK’s carelessness with posting episode clips, it was still quite a sight to behold. Besides, we didn’t get to see the fire breath until the episode aired.
As for Gem Drill, that may have been the shortest two-hour journey ever portrayed in a cartoon, but since Peridot never leaves home without a blast cannon we got a wonderful joke about the controller for the Nintendo 64.

What could Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill mean?
Have you ever seen something happen in an episode and you really, really wanted it to be setting something up to happen later in the series? Like really wanted it? We have questions about Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill, of course, but we have at least one hope as well.
Preview for Same Old World
If you haven’t seen it already, Cartoon Network posted a clip from next week’s episode: Same Old World. Do check it out if you’re interested in what’s coming, but haven’t heard yet.
They’ve also posted a new clip, so enjoy:
What we learned from Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill
When you wrap up two major plotlines you’re bound to give some good lore out, and fans like us are sure to appreciate it. It’s been quite a while since we’ve done lore implications for weekly episodes, so let’s find out together if we still remember how.
Immediate reaction to Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill
We’re back with a two-parter, and both episodes were packed full of stuff (action and introspection). Not to give too much away, but there’s a recurring topic of interest that came up in both episodes, plus some information about homeworld, and a bit more we learned about the watermelon Stevens and the Cluster.
So yes, two very good episodes to think of for new lore-related information. As far as stuff to speculate on, however? We’ll have to mull it. There’s at least one huge plot hook thrown out, but speculating about lore? We’ll see.
What to expect from Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill
Well, we can’t really make predictions about Super Watermelon Island because we know pretty much exactly what’s going to happen (the spoilers have gotten even thicker since then, if you can believe it). So basically, we’ve been out-Ronaldoed by Cartoon Network this time around.
For one episode, anyway. We still have Gem Drill to wonder about. We’ve seen just enough from previews to be intrigued, but not enough to have any idea what will happen. Hopefully saying that their mission will probably succeed isn’t much of a spoiler (there are, after all, three more weeks of In Too Deep left). This is the first of three good episodes for “what we really are” though, so let’s see if any history from the rebellion comes up.
