GC13 and Hunter discuss what is certain to be the most precious episode of the In Too Deep event: Barn Mates. Let the wacky roommate comedy commence! In a different episode…
So Lapis certainly has good reason to be angry. Poor Peridot is so new at this whole friendship thing (and not making people feel bad), so making friends was already going to be a tough proposition even without someone with such useful information as her target new buddy.
It’s okay, because Lapis eventually comes around. Next stop: Jasper? We can certainly dream, but two out of three wouldn’t be bad either, right?

I agree with Hunter. Like to be fair, I’d be pretty ticked off after coming from many months of a boiling fusion with person you dearly hate just to see the person who brought you back to earth in the first place. Lapis has gone through some many……many……many dark times, so trying to warm up to a person who’s gotten through all these things is not gonna warm up to you, or at least be okay with you, easily.
But I do agree with GC with keeping the Dorito hair. It’s a very special and crucial thing to this clod.
As for Lapis Lazuli’s, my theory is that she’s a messenger for Homeworld. Yes, it’s not a very powerful job knowing how powerful Lapis is, but if anything, she’s nothing without water. Take away water from Lapis, and all you have is her wings. I have a whole theory about Lapis Lauzlis being messengers, but I don’t plan on taking up the entire comments!
Also Hunter, you may have a lucky or unlucky chance getting a mini Peri Funko through these mystery things coming in July: http://funko.com/blogs/news/120042115-coming-soon-new-dragon-ball-and-steven-universe
I actually thought Peridot’s last attempt to sympathize with Lapis was a bit jarring. Her whole attitude before was very naive and she had her usually hilarious screechy tone, but then when that fails her whole tone of voice changes and it felt like it happened a little too quick.
As for Lapis destroying the recorder, as Peridot is giving it to her she is talking about how Steven gave it to help her cope with everything. Lapis was well aware of how much it meant to her as well as how it was also something given to her by Steven.
I agree.
Besides, I have a hard time putting myself in Lapisl shoes since she hasn’t really developed as a character, with her one trait being “Poor me”.
Even without knowing her, I can still understand why Lapis’ situation sucks, and understand why she would want to keep her distance from Peridot. I just think that it’s possible to forgive someone and still not want to have anything to do with them.
I really enjoyed Peridot’s “I gotyo numba” comment to Lapis, but I think my favorite line by her was when she said “I like the cut of your gem Stephen Quartz.” Stephen Quartz feels a perfect name for him, covering his gem/human identity, and seems like a nice way of Peridot signaling respect for Stephen.
Did no one catch the Invader Zim reference?!
“HEY LAPIS, HEY, HEY LAZULI! LAPIS! HEY LAPIS! LAZULI!”
Author
It’s hard to tell if it’s a deliberate reference or not though (I do know that people were doing “My Diamond! My Diamond! Hey! Hey! Hey! My Diamond!” well before Barn Mates). What I’m convinced was a deliberate reference was her face behind the truck window in Message Received. I might be delusional though.
I think its just that Lapis is on a planet covered in water. If she was on like 99% of other planets shes as useless as a common pearl.
And also the star pointed thingy. What if….5 gems survived the war?!!!! Maybe Amethyst just took someone elses place.
