Looking back at Kiki’s Pizza Delivery Service

Two forks, it’s fancy.

We go right from pizza bagels to delivering mountains of full-sized pizzas (Kiki may be a runner, but her arms are apparently in great shape too if she’s carrying all of those pizzas around town!). What a time to be alive!

Don’t let anyone say that Steven doesn’t value others’ privacy: he was pretty clearly distraught and apologetic when he found out that he had been in Kiki’s dream, showing that he still remembers what he learned back in The New Lars. (Not that Kiki’s holding it against him mind you, since having a dream warrior for a friend can be pretty handy whether or not you’re being stalked by a magical serial killer.)

It’s nice to see a show being up front with its moral (you have to make time for yourself too) without being too preachy about it (a problem lots of older programs had). It’s also nice to see the show referencing more anime (Evangelion gets the honor again this time).

Well, that’s it for today: there’s an awesome cheese rave at the pizza cave we need to get to. 🙂

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 122: Restaurant Wars

GC13 discusses a particularly humorous episode of the Steven Nuke: Restaurant Wars.

It may not have involved literal armed warfare between the two restaurants in question, but no one can deny that both mobilized some serious effort to dramatically drum up business (even the fry stand was doing deliveries, which says a lot about how crazy things must have been).

Plus Kofi went totally crazy and tried to brand Steven.

Let us all just take a moment of silence now to remember how close we came to losing the budding romance between Ronaldo and Jane. Never forget how fragile love can be.

Looking back at Restaurant Wars

Alright, it’s time for another real talk: Kofi is great. Fryman is great. But they were both completely out of their minds in this episode. Let’s ignore Kofi trying to brand Steven (as in burn a VIP membership into his skin) and just look at how eager they were for war: Kofi has been sitting with a sign right by the door, and Fryman didn’t even pretend like he wanted to negotiate. Perhaps they both just needed to spill a bit of the tomato-based sauce of their preference…

This was the episode that surely made countless fans hunger for fried mozzarella sticks (which turn out to be as delicious as they sound, by the way). It also get bonus points for Kofi referencing an old Bagel Bites commercial.

Still, seeing Ronaldo’s heart broken like that was tough.

As sad as Ronaldo’s tale is in Restaurant Wars, however, at least it has a happy ending, .

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 121: #StevenBomb 5 (Early Release)

GC13, Dakota, and Hunter are very happy to present an episode about the fifth StevenBomb, and only a month early! (Thanks Cartoon Network!)

It’s too hard to give a summary of the podcast for those who still haven’t watched the episodes yet, so here’s a spoiler-free recap:

Could we be Ronaldo? Is it possible?

Circles and ovals, squares and hexagons.

What are Gemlins?

Butter was built, then you were built for butter.

Surprise! It was intentional after all

Polygon has the full story, but chances are good you already know the gist of it: on the evening of January 2, one calendar month before the next Steven Bomb was scheduled to have finished airing (and one day after Cartoon Network reminded us all that full episodes are available on their app), all five episodes were released on the Cartoon Network app and website for anyone with a cable provider. The next day, cable providers started putting the episodes up for on-demand viewing. Needless to say, this caused a bit of an uproar.

Though they have taken down all but the first episode from their app and website, according to Polygon a Cartoon Network rep has told them the early release was intentional. That’s all we need to hear, so you get no points for guessing what the next episode of our podcast will cover.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 120: Beach City Drift

It’s our first podcast of the new year, and GC13 and Dakota are covering Beach City Drift, known both as a Stevonnie episode and as the second appearance of a very controversial character: Kevin.

Love him or hate him, you have to admit that he knows how to push Stevonnie’s buttons. At least he used to know, before Connie and Steven heeded the wise words of Mr. Universe. Even if his meltdown is a bit exaggerated, it’s still fun to watch.

Plus there’s always Ronaldo: car guy, or just a nineties kid who remembers a particular car? Already dating Jane, or meeting her for the first time at the race? Inquiring minds want to know.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 119: New bomb hype

GC13 and Hunter engage in some consequence-free hyping, guessing at what some short episode descriptions might hint at for the next Steven Bomb to hit the airwaves.

Now surely with Steven Universe episode descriptions being notoriously difficult to draw predictions from, we’d be cautious, wouldn’t we? Wrong! This is a special occasion, one where we throw caution to the wind and dare to dream big! Even if it’s most likely, for instance, that Yellow Pearl is merely singing backup to Yellow Diamond, imagine a full-on duet between our Pearl and Yellow Diamond. It’s a dream worth dreaming.
