What to expect from Say Uncle

Good morning!

It’s coming. We didn’t listen. 😉

So, tomorrow’s the big day. Uncle Grandpa shows up to help Steven work on summoning his shield from his gem, indirectly saving the Crystal Gems’ lives and ensuring that humanity still has a chance for survival. All in a day’s work for a reality warper, right?

This one was written and storyboarded by the Steven Universe team (Jeff Liu and Joe Johnston if you’re curious), but the introduction of Uncle Grandpa to the mix makes things… Difficult to predict, to say the least.

Don’t forget that it’s on at 5:30 PM EDT (but showing up early is better than showing up late).

New episode: Story for Steven will air on April 9, 2015

Ah, the much-anticipated Story for Steven, our second season-one episode being aired in season two, is finally being aired next week. As much as we want to see an alligator, we probably won’t get it. We’ll definitely be tuned in at 5:30 PM EDT on April 9 though, just in case!

Are Sour Cream and Onion step-brothers or half-brothers? Did we see Peridot walking down the road as Steven and the cool kids drove past? Can the Crystal Gems really hover in the air or is that just part of the great diamond conspiracy? Don’t look to us for answers: we just want to see you laughing in the pizza rain.

So this leaves us with Say Uncle airing this week. The previews look like they made it work, so let’s see what happens when a reality warper shows up on the beach with a mind to help Steven with his Gem powers.

Vroom vroom! Kill the road! Freedom smells like pizza and exhaust fumes—pizza delivery car exhaust fumes. That makes Road Killer this week’s song of the week. Just try not to crash into anything if a sudden pizza rain starts up—they can be tricky, showing up even when there isn’t a pizza cloud in the sky.

We’re no strangers to squeezing lore out of character-centric episodes, so even though Joy Ride focused mostly on showing us some of Steven’s feelings and giving us a better look at the cool kids you shouldn’t be surprised that we were able to get some lore out of this. Ratings for Joy Ride

There’s no way to put a happy face on this one: Joy Ride got 1,342,000 viewers on Thursday. Ratings were down across all stations compared to last week, but… Ouch.

Here’s how the Cartoon Network premiers looked:

  1. Regular Show at 7:30 with 1,946,000
  2. Teen Titans Go at 6:00 with 1,853,000
  3. Steven Universe at 5:00 with 1,342,000
  4. Uncle Grandpa at 5:30 with 1,282,000

The current state of the homeworld

We’ve seen enough of the Gem homeworld to be able to make some assumptions about it. As we get more information our guesses should become more accurate, but these aren’t wild stabs in the dark: it all meshes with what we’ve seen previously to paint a consistent picture of the modern homeworld.

In short, the homeworld is militarized but weak.
