Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 109: Steven Floats

PodcastTitleGC13 comes out for another solo run, starting our recap of the Steven Nuke with a discussion of Steven Floats.

Again, it feels so great to be back in Beach City! Let’s get this thing started: it’s our kind of episode. Even though Sadie is the only boardie to show up “in the flesh” during the episode, and then for just a bit part, it’s a nice breath of fresh air to have some slice of life episodes.

While it’s fun to over-analyze how high up Steven must have jumped, it’s more fun to think of Kofi seething with rage after Garnet took his phone and used it all night. Is that why he wanted to brand Steven in Restaurant Wars? A discussion for another time.

Finally: Steven Floats

stevenfloatsSteven really said it for us: hello Beach City, it’s great to be back!

If there was one surprising revelation in this episode, it would probably be that the Crystal Gems weren’t heading back to the Temple daily when work was done. Come on: the nearest warp pad isn’t even that far away!

Of course if there were two, it would be that Steven’s a very accurate thrower (hitting someone with a flip-flop at any distance can’t be easy).

The third surprising revelation is probably the necessity of someone other than Sadie or Lars working at the Big Donut (the donuts were already made when Sadie showed up, and you know Lars didn’t get up early to make them).

What an episode though. “Dude, summarize!”, Garnet breaking into Kofi’s car, casually dropping a boat, plus talk of jet packs and complicated feelings! Steven Floats heralded a return to episodes focused on Beach City rather than the imminent destruction of the Earth, but centered around the magical twist we always manage to get in those kinds of episodes.

(Oh and yes, there’s no way you can make sense of how far up Steven jumped—the answer is and will always be “as high as he needs to be up for each shot to work”, and that varies quite a bit shot to shot.)

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 108: Minisodes (Volume Two)

PodcastTitleGC13 and Sophia discuss the second batch of minisodes (though the first batch to initially be called that, with the first batch being called online shorts): Cooking With Lion, Gem Karaoke, Steven Reacts, Video Chat, and Steven’s Song Time.

With five pieces of new content clocking in at roughly the length of a full episode there’s bound to be something there for you. Were you excited to see a “full” episode of the Crying Breakfast Friends? Did it astound you to learn that Samantha Pepper is the mind behind our second-favorite show about people crying?

Is anybody listening, can anyone understand?

Steven Universe minisodes volume two published

A few days ago, five Steven Universe minisodes were released on iTunes with no acclaim. The five minisodes together make up a single episode of season four, much like season two contained its five shorts. You can find them for sale on iTunes. You can also expect there to be a podcast episode about them shortly, interrupting our schedule to deal with this pleasant surprise!

Here are the minisode titles:

  • Cooking With Lion
  • Gem Karaoke
  • Steven Reacts
  • Video Chat
  • Steven’s Song Time

An early preview for Gem Harvest

Cartoon Network has given us an early preview for Gem Harvest. There’s still no air date for it, but at least we can finally resolve the betting pool for its subject. Who had pumpkins?

It was set to Unlisted briefly (though still accessible with the link) but now you can see it on their Videos list again now that an extended version has been aired at New York Comic Con.

Aivi and Surasshu post: Three highly requested tracks

garnetkeytarThis was some great news. A few days ago, Aivi and Surasshu posted three tracks that were highly requested by the fandom. Most notable (and not just because GC13 really likes the song) is Fusion Disco (the track from the beginning of Alone Together), but there is also the version of Sardonyx’s theme from when Sardonyx and Smoky Quartz meet, and the song playing in the background when Jasper confronts Lapis in Alone at Sea.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 107: Future Vision

PodcastTitleGC13 and Sophia finish the retro episode discussions by talking about that wonderful kettle of fish: Future Vision.

It’s fun, but boy does the existence of future vision make some things hard to theorize about. We manage though!

Whether you gotta go quickly, or whether you’re still in the Ninja Squad, you can’t deny that future vision is at least a very consequential power. It might even be stronger than drinking coffee for breakfast.

If you ever have the opportunity to get a high-five from Lars though, you better take it—those chances don’t come around often.
