GC13 discusses a favorite episode of the Steven Nuke: Too Short to Ride. Alas, there was no Alexandrite to be found (see podcast episode 60, 14:48 into it).
Still, with Peridot around there’s not much disappointment to be found (certainly there are no union benefits to be found for poor Mr. Smiley). She has some really cute moments earlier in the episode, then an emotional roller coaster as intense as the physical one she was too short to ride.
There were some interesting lore tidbits though: Peridot’s claiming of rarity and importance, despite not being all that tall. Even bigger though, word of a resource shortage on the Homeworld, then not long after evidence that there actually is no resource shortage—and that, again, the Diamonds are not the designers of the Gems.
The plot thickens.

What if that cracking *was* her powers opening, cuz Gems have no bones and then her powers worked right after.
Also when that happened my sister was watching with me and that part made her laugh a whole lot.
“The Diamonds are not the designers of gems” What? What do you mean?

I’ve written about it a couple of times (after StevenBomb 4, and after the end of season two). The gist of it is that the Diamonds display antipathy towards Gems’ powers, meaning they don’t understand the inner workings of the gem well enough to remove them. They may or may not design Gems, but they didn’t design the Gem race itself, they only tinker with it.
