Immediate reaction to Storm in the Room

Ah, the dreaded character episode strikes again. (Then again, Out of This World had some serious lore bombs in it that we’re still planning on getting back to.)

Still, as far as character episodes go, what a thing to be coming to grips with.

I agree. As far as character development goes, it was good. Stephen seemed like kind of a jerk, but he’s a teenager, and teenagers can have complicated relationships with our parents (especially if they were missing parents) so that all seems very in-character.

Still, I’m really disappointed we didn’t get any answers. We had a chance to see what happened in the War, with Pink Diamond, maybe at the Zoo in the very beginning. This episode had such lore promise, but delivered none of it.

This episode is actually rather good with the visual storytelling during the start! The angle wherein Steven was put in between Connie and her mother, the stillness within the house, Steven shown as truly affected with the absence of his true mother….

However, it was such a let down that there was no answer to the most common questions of the fandom. The answer Steven sought can be inferred easily.

All in all, a good start but a lacking ending. Not enough to restore my faith in this show yet.

It seems your problem is expectations. You expected this to give lore answers, but instead of looking at this episode for what it isn’t, look at it for what it is. Steven keeps a lot of things bottled up, and this was a release for him. A lot of his thoughts can be deduced from earlier episodes, but this episode was about putting it all out there as confirmation, and for the kids watching the show that wouldn’t have picked up on those more subtle moments. While we didn’t get a lore episode, what we got was an amazing character developing episode. The last bomb was a classic example of prioritizing action and showing “stuff” over growing characters. People complain about the “filler” episodes when without those episodes the action/lore bombs wouldn’t have nearly the same impact.

I wonder what Hunter is going to think of Steven’s crying this episode?

Also, Connie’s mom got to show her good side.
