Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 99: Week three of the Summer Adventure

PodcastTitleSophia and GC13 are in to talk about the week the Summer Adventure really heated up. Week three (stateside) consisted of Gem HuntCrack the WhipSteven vs Amethyst, and Bismuth.

Weren’t those Beach City episodes from the first two weeks nice? We didn’t get much of that Beach City flavor this week (though we did get a little taste). It’s definitely story arc season, and that means ramping hype!

Each week during the Summer Adventure event we’ll do an episode briefly going over the previous week’s episodes; once the event is done we’ll buckle down and start doing a full episode for each episode of the event after new weekly episodes stop.

Apparently gemstones with deep cuts appear smaller physically (lose width in exchange for depth) & reflect light differently than perfect gems (a smaller range of light?).

If I was to compare each of the CG’s roles in combat to RPG classes, Garnet is the fighter/monk, Pearl is the Ranger, Steven is the Cleric, and Amethyst is the Rogue. Amethyst has shined in combat when she gets the jump on things, not in straight forward combat, which is why she got beat by Jasper. Amethyst just needs to train and focus her inherently unique combat style.

I think Hollow Pearl 2.0 were ones seen in Sworn to the Sword, since those had stars on their chests instead of the diamond symbol that Hollow Pearl in Steven the Sword Fighter had.

Also, I wouldn’t say Sardonyx was resolved like nothing happened. It took a whole week to resolve, and while they get along, there hasn’t been a lot of Pearl/Garnet specific focus to see how their individual relationship is doing.

Well Rose couldn’t have had a human child because only half of all of his cells are human. The other half is a gem projection and that is why he needs a gem, and why he is supa strong

At least this week we get to see SMOKY QUARTZ!!! And GC, I have recently recieved the cheeseburger backpack, it woks great, but has a strong plastic smell and is compressed, but letting it air out for a day or two and putting a pillow in the bun to poof it out will perfect the item.

Well keep everyone informed about the backpack. How does it look?

It looks great! Just like the actual one in the show, however the 2 buns and cheese are actual pockets, and the cheese is not fully square. The straps are a light pinkish-white, and the pattie is a short, synthetic fur. Other than that it looks really cool.

    Good stuff!

So the most tragic thing I just realized in *this* episode is that Peridot can’t shapeshift so she can’t eat cuz she can’t shapeshift a digestive system nor can she play Steven tag. Anyway, on to the actual content.

Biggs Jasper and Ocean Jasper in this episode, but remember Bismuth talks about “Biggs” as a crystal gem.

Also, the surfboard disappears after she jumps, so maybe she shapeshifted it.

Amethyst with her hair up, do you agree. So great.

And then Bismuth. And they even has the little anime-title-card transitions!

Actually Ocean Jasper is a type of Agate, and the brown gem definitely looks like crazy lace.

“I think it would not take very much to overwhelm Jasper if they just had two or more Crystal Gems.” 😀

The thing about “Crack the Whip” that you forget by the end of the episode on first watch is that Amethyst did poof the first monster by herself while Steven and Connie were still panicking in their bubble. But one never remembers the battles they win.

“Bismuth” really rewards a rewatch. You can see the subtle hints in Bismuth’s expression that something’s not right when Pearl says “Rose said she lost track of you” and then “I was working on these since… before”.

I personally feel amethyst could beat pearl in a fight if she trained as much as pearl does. Amethyst is obviously stronger than pearl. Pearl may actually be the physically weakest member of the group (not counting peridot) it’s her precision and knowing how reckless amethyst is with her fighting and emotions that allows pearl to beat amethyst. Like you said garnet and pearl let themselves go since the war and amethyst wasn’t even there so she hasn’t had proper Quartz training the start. If she was having home world Quartz I believe she would be a force to be reckoned with.

I greatly enjoy the podcast and discussions. Everyone is doing a great job and the podcast makes the workday rather pleasant. I do have 2 a questions for GC13. Who was your favorite shaper, and what was your favorite role in Dawngate?

Did I make a reference to Dawngate last week? I really should write those down. 😛

Mina was probably my favorite shaper, since I loved playing tactician and she was simply oppressive (plus her VOICE LINES—Best Announcer NA!). Rock the rogue stone, keep ducking into an un-warded bush, and let those auto-attacks fly! Pretty late into the game, when the Dawngate was about to be announced as closing soon, I was inspired by some racecar Cerulean builds to start building for speed on Renzo (also a favorite both to play and to listen to) and on Raina; both of them just had the power to pursue a target and never let them go. If I was in the jungle I’d choose someone simple like Voluc or Kahgen, and for gladiator Nissa was my go-to shaper.
