Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 52: Too Far

PodcastTitleKen, GC13, and Hunter see Steven Universe into the year-end break with a discussion of the latest episode: Too Far.

It’s quite interesting to learn more about the homeworld, but it’s also great to learn that once again the fans were right: Amethyst’s body was meant to look a lot like Jasper’s, but she looks the way she does because she’s an overcooked runt. Play your preferred celebratory sound effect now.

Steven, Pearl, and now Amethyst have got their field trip with Peridot, so when will it be Garnet’s turn? Sure, Steven’s the only one who seems to have enjoyed his field trip, but character development is important!

Also note that while we mention that Steven is airing re-runs at 7:30 PM, it was moved to 4:30 PM. It will take a while before guide sites know, so just watch out!

At Least Steve dind´t need to buy a drill to drill that drill…

    the joke, i tried.
Yeah, the payday reedit is really on flames, dammit Overkill.

and yeah, Homestruck is really a bad fanbase, i love those comics, but YEAH!

about Rose and Pearl, there is a good theory i heard here:

    http://andrearitsu.tumblr.com/post/130848186470/regarding-pearls-and-rose

    To resume a part is:

What if Rose didn’t even realize Pearl’s feelings? What if Rose assumed that due to Homeworld Pearls being “natural maid-servants” that Pearl’s affection and obvious infatuation towards her came out of her basic programming?

I think Pearl’s love for Rose might have been more tragic than just a one-sided case of romance. I think Rose might have only viewed Pearl as a free, but still determined and loyal, common Pearl.

    Sounds sad as hell!

      YEAH, THAT’S WHAT WE NEED!

      1. YES, NO, MAYBE, NOT SURE.

It’ll be interesting to see how it develops.

In the scene where Peridot was atop Amethyst, did nobody else think of that one female basketball or indoor volleyball game wherein one of the players fell onto a player of the opposing team and, in order to cushion the landing, clasped their opponent’s breasts?

Also, the Crewniverse has vaguely tweeted about how the Pearl-Rose relationship wasn’t as one-sided.

It’s also very possible that Peridot’s equivocal back-repeat of the idea that she’s “a real Gem” to Amethyst or Steven is explained by how she views herself as defective for being a traitor, and that Peridots are “actual Gems” in the Homeworld caste system.

I think that peridots comments “yes I am a gem” and “your the only cyrstal gem that’s actually a gem” as well as amethyst comment “you’re a real gem perry ” are based on what home world considers is a gem. So what do they consider? A gem is considered a gem when they live up to there function or purpose. Peridot says she is the only one that’s a gem cause she they only one who still lives up to her designed purpose because let’s face it she does not have any tactical or strategic purspose to the group she is just the muscle and comic relief. Then amethyst says she’s a real gem because she still lives up to this gem ideology that you have to be what your supposed to an are told to be .

I took Peridot’s delivery of “Yes I am a Gem” comment as her still being befuddled by how weird Amethyst and Steven seemed to her. Considering how she has responsibility over a project like the Cluster, and considering how Jasper didn’t bat an eye at Peridot talking about “my work” and “my machines”, it seems apparent that Peridots have “personhood”. Considering how Peridot finds it feasible but odd for a Peridot to own a Pearl, it’s likely that Peridots are too low ranking to own other Gems, but still high enough to be their own individuals.

I remember, after On the Run but before The Return, one aspect of Amethyst that made people think she was a defect was her lip, in that it resembles a cleft palette. Jaspers appearance and comment about her being a runt only sealed the the deal.

While you guys do acknowledge that Amethyst had a quick turn around from laughing at Peridot making fun of her friends to being offended, I was bothered that the episode didn’t address that more. Peridot was definitely wrong to be so rude and judgmental, but the episode didn’t really address Amethyst’s hypocrisy.

I just find it odd that Peridot avoided comparing Amethyst to Jasper in the sense of how she was suppose to look. Including comparing her to Steven considering his gem is also suppose to be a quartz.

  2. Alright, I give up

Someone give me a terrible fanfic of SU (preferably safe for work), and I’ll give you a million dollars.

    Thank you.

Ken knows my struggle with the Homestuck fandom (( both great and terrible at the same time )). This episode was really fun and the references & info Peridot gave about Homeworld’s ideas are always fun to finally know.
