Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 63: the pilot

PodcastTitleGC13, Sophia, and Hunter discuss the pilot episode of Steven Universe. A real blast from the past with some very different character designs, but all of the magic we’ve come to love the show for.

With the hiatus finally ending it’s time to look back to where it all began. We don’t understand time travel (or hydrodynamic spatulas), but we can see what changed and what stayed the same.

(And seriously, have you heard about this Lakewood Plaza Turbo thing?)

Yeah, the Dog Nut exist in Lion 3: Straight To Video – http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/steven-universe/images/2/23/Lionvideo_%282%29.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20141205015425

Also, Sophia’s right. In Steven and The Stevens once Steven destroyed the original time thingy, ALL the time thingys went into dust confirming her statement that the original time device can’t be duplicated.

    Can’t wait for tomorrow’s podcast. 🙂

Thanks. I was getting a hunch it was in there, but it’s kind of tough to go through the episodes with scenes inside the Big Donut while we’re recording. I knew one of our fans would pick it up! 🙂

Nope, all we can do is obsessively scan public sources, and we can only effectively do that stateside.

They did make Pearl’s pilot outfit canon.
In S01E16 Steven the Sword Fighter, when Pearl is reforming
she can be seen briefly in her pilot outfit.

So who do you think the Hourglass of Time used to be? Every magical object that we have an explination for has been described as being Gem powered like Lapis’ Mirror and the Gem Dust Scroll. It’s reasonable to think that the dust powering the Hourglass is Gem Dust.

And now that it’s been smashed and “released” from its object in the Canon universe and the Pilot universe, it’d be a wonderful setup for a big interdimensional crossover movie thing.

Wait, Hunter’s a furry? I knew that I had a special place in my heart for him for SOME reason!

Enjoyed the discussion, but maybe next time edit out the “I’m just going to keep talking over you” part, as that was a bit painful to list to, if it had gone any longer I would have had to turn off the podcast.

I like the art as it is now the best. And I’m so happy about how they changed Garnet’s design. Square mom forever ♥

Great podcast discussion. I like Hunter, I’d like to think he’s right most of the time since I’m of the same opinion as well. Anyways, I think we’re both right in whatever we say and yea, just look at Spongebob.

Please guy’s try not to argue/talk over each other. no offence but it is kind of rude to talk over someone else when they’re already talking. Also this was very shot, that being there’s not much to discuss with the pilot. I’m just gonna call it now and say the next episode (of LSS) is over half an hour.

One thing about the Pilot I’ve seen people analyze is the metallic-looking rings around the Gems’ gems. I don’t recall the specifics, but people have been making connections between the color/metal of these rings and what the associated Gem’s rank or role on Homeworld was.
