Oh boy, the lore, the lore, the lore! The episode title may have only referred to a very specific answer, but we got a lot of answers out of this one—so many answers! The Answer may very well get its own post after the bomb for just how much it told us.
There’s also a very key level of speculation. We now know more than ever about… It!

I cri. Why do you do this to me Rebecca Sugar?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Cotton candy mom and the duet and adorkable rose and “her terrifying renegade pearl” and Blue Diamond and Pearl wasted two Jaspers, two Rubies, and two other gems and Pearl not summoning her spear and where did they get that truck and WE ARE THE CRYSTAL GEMS and…and…and… *heavy breathing*
Guys I don’t think that Rose is Pink Diamond anymore…
*VIOLENT INTERNAL SCREAMING*
Were they Jaspers? I thought Jasper was kind of orange and the two we saw were more pink, but certainly they were quartzes because of their build and probably serve a similar purpose.
I loved seeing all of the silhouettes in this episode. I spotted a Lapis near the beginning!
Well, we were specifically told in the Classroom Gems short what the best reason to fuse was!
I’m curious if the Rebellion had originally been larger and was now down to its last two members, or whether that was all it ever was (up until then). Amazing how close they were to defeat.
Man, I feel really sorry for all the Pink Diamond theorists out there.
After this episode it’s lost a lot of support.
How so? I don’t see what you mean.
Yeah I think if anything I think it’s gained a bunch. We see blue diamond so that’s at least the diamond theory confirmed. I noticed that all of the gems silhouettes in this episode were blue and pink and that would make a lot of sense, blues under blue diamond and the pink ones that had to be shuffled around once their overseer betrayed homeworld. I’m curious what did you see in the episode that could be evidence against Pink Diamond, or specifically Rose as Pink Diamond?
This Steven Bomb just started out so well, and I have to hand it to Rebecca Sugar and her team for just concocting a terrific love story in the span of 11 minutes. Also, we now know that it was Pearl who joined up with Rose first to form the Crystal Gems (I don’t specifically know if it was ever referenced) and that gems publicly shamed fusions of two different gems as opposed to two gems of the same “race” fusing (note big Ruby for reference). This was such a great start for Steven’s Birthday, oh, and Blue Diamond is just BIG.
Guys, GUYS! I’m scared! I’m happy, but I’m SO SCARED!
This was a sweet story to start us off this week! But I have one question about Garnet’s first appearance in the flashback. Were her colors all mixed up because of her first time fusing? If so, doesn’t that mean Stevonnie’s appearance isn’t technically final because Steven and Connie are still new to fusion?
Well one other thing we kind of learned guys was that Blue Diamond seems like the overseer of the diplomatic part of gem society, and you can catch quick glimpses of different gem shapes, including one that looked like Lapis Lazulis Gwen. So far the diplomats from what I can guess Carey on the same color palette(or close to) as the Diamond that rules over them. So let’s say mayhap Yellow Diamond is the overseer of the war and technology faction? (taking in account that Peri is green and Jasper is an orangey yellow?)
Obvi too early to say, but it also seems like Peridot doesn’t know what gems Garnet is composed of, since she isn’t perplexed as to why a diplomatic gem and soldier gem ate “permafused”..
Obviously just still speculation. Still a beautiful episode. I love when Estelle has more kind of scared or nervous voice inflection. Also love seeing Rose develope more and more as a character even though we still don’t know much of anything about her and Pearl. More StevenBomb HYPUUU
Gem not Gwen. DaMN you phone
Carry not Carey. ;_; I cri
“Obvi too early to say, but it also seems like Peridot doesn’t know what gems Garnet is composed of, since she isn’t perplexed as to why a diplomatic gem and soldier gem ate “permafused”..”
To the contrary, it seems to me this moment–when the rebellion was literally seconds away from being crushed only for Rose and Pearl to escape after this fusion formed–would have to become one of the most infamous moments in gem history. Even if gems don’t necessarily recognize fusions instinctively, I think that would be why Jasper recognized Garnet on sight, and if Peridot was reading reports on the War for Earth and not just the Cluster, she’d probably know that as well.
I wouldn’t necessarily say she’s just the diplomat, rather for all we know they all gave some diplomatic aspects to them. What I got from this is that Blue Diamond is in charge of overseeing the development of new Gem colonies, and possibly looking over a large chunk of other Gem controlled planets.
Nope just piped one of my theories. Jailbreak
This was not just an episode now whe know lapis wasnt blue diamond and btw she had a pearl beside her so the pearl servants came in yellow diamond and blue diamond forms atleast
I am so excited! I can hardly wait to see what happens tonight!
