What we learned from Rising Tides, Crashing Skies

It was the fun episode, the silly little documentary Ronaldo slapped together (as well as his main portfolio piece for the position of inter-species negotiator). A couple of brief pieces of dialogue, delivered by Pearl, were still enough to give us some interesting facts:

  • Monsters are drawn to the Crystal Gems
  • The temple, though extra-dimensional, still exists in proximity to Beach City

So let’s start our analysis of #StevenBomb2.0 with the simplest entry we’ll have: considering two facts that have just been added to what we know about the Crystal Gems.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 31: Cat Fingers

PodcastTitleGC13, special guest Max from The Ringo Zone podcast, Ken, and Dakota discuss Cat Fingers (the first appearance of Mayor Dewey, the Internet’s mayor!).

Amethyst’s penchant for shapeshifting is discussed, as is how Steven could possibly need a lecture about shapeshifting. Pearl’s hesitance to shapeshift is also brought up, as is the perfect first shape change for her to use (spoiler alert: “Womp! Womp!”).

A rather lengthy discussion about the nature of the early series also comes up, and about how different it is from the episodes that came later. Obviously the show was still drawing in fans, but perhaps it hadn’t quite found its footing.

The Lunar Sea Spire now has a Facebook group, so please check us out there!

Cover art for Steven Universe graphic novel revealed

Yesterday the LA Times revealed the cover and the premise for the upcoming Steven Universe graphic novel, Steven Universe: Too Cool For School.

Mr. Jones-Quartey, after leaving the show, has left us with more than episodes that bear his touch: he was also responsible for the story of Too Cool For School. If you’ve wondered why Steven has never been to school before, apparently you’re finally going to get your answer!

The graphic novel is planned to come out in December, and there are plans to release one a year. After the comic series was put on hold after eight issues (plus a one-shot issue about Greg), this is great news.

Aivi and Surasshu post: Young Gems

Ah, another older song, this time from Story for Steven. It seems that the crunch time for the season two music is finally over, as Aivi and Surasshu have come through again: Young Gems (1:46) is up for you to listen to and enjoy.

What could #StevenBomb2.0 mean?

Where there is lore there is speculation. We’ve made the outline for our upcoming #StevenBomb2.0 lore posts, now it’s time to do the same for our speculation. These will get full write-ups over the next couple of weeks, before #StevenBomb3 hits.

Pink Diamond
We’ve been speculating that Rose Quartz used to be Pink Diamond since The Return and Jailbreak aired, and Sworn to the Sword added more reasons to believe in the theory. Since the theory has never got a full writeup, we think its time has come.

Sworn to the Sword
We got more than evidence for Rose being Pink Diamond out of Sworn to the Sword, we got an interesting idea for what some early interactions between Gems and humans might have been like: battles in the arena for the Gems’ right to colonize Earth. We’d like to explore this concept some, since it’s certainly interesting.

Chille Tid
Steven can apparently communicate with at least some Gems while he’s dreaming. Is this power unique to him, how could this power work, and what could it mean?

What did we learn from #StevenBomb2.0?

Now that #StevenBomb2.0 has finished we can sit back and take stock of it. While we got a lot of speculation fuel, we also got some hard facts too. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be discussing the following episodes:

Rising Tides, Crashing Skies
It’s here that it was confirmed that monsters are drawn to the Crystal Gems somehow. The big draw, however, is the tidbit of information about the temple: if the Crystal Gems were to move, they wouldn’t be able to simply move the entrance to the temple with them.

Keeping It Together
The glimpse at the forced fusion plotline was good, but what we can take away for sure is what Garnet told Steven about long-term fusion, and presumably how it differs from what Steven and Connie have experienced as Stevonnie.

We Need To Talk
This was the first big look we got at what Rose Quartz was actually like (though we got a peek in Lion 3: Straight to Video), so that’s definitely cause for discussion.

Ratings for Chille Tid

It looks like #StevenBomb2.0 ended strong: Chille Tid brought in 1,900,000 viewers, beating each episode of the bomb except for Sworn to the Sword.

Aivi and Surasshu post: Full Disclosure

Well this one is going a bit back. After the second #StevenBomb has finished airing, we get something from the first from Aivi and Surasshu. Still, it’s great to have Full Disclosure (1:36) posted.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 30: #StevenBomb2.0

PodcastTitleStevenBomb2GC13 and Ken discuss #StevenBomb2.0, which just finished, and #StevenBomb3, which was just announced for July 13-17.

The ratings of #StevenBomb2.0, which were much better than the ratings for the first #StevenBomb, are discussed, as is the huge spike in fan activity online. Even though GC13 and Ken would both prefer a return to getting one episode each week, so long as the fans are responding well then there’s nothing to complain about.

Nobody knows what’s going to happen with #StevenBomb3, but whoever Sardonyx turns out to be, she (presumably a she) needs to be a big deal if the character is being teased as soon as the event is announced.
