Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 574: The Bird in the Clock (from Fionna and Cake)

GC13 and David discuss The Bird in the Clock from the second season of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.

Finn’s theater of the mind is a very grim place: there are lots of things that want to kill him, and they’re quite good at it! Far better than Fionna is at stopping them, anyway.

But in the real world the quest to save the Sweet Spot continues! Ms. Abadeer is even willing to help (and shows off her son’s gorgeous coffin lid!), but maybe Fifi should stay away from her…

  1. It’s definitely been a while since I commented on this website. I guess our schedules lined up to where I’m able to listen to the episodes in full and comment on what you guys are saying.

So first off: When you guys were reviewing “Invinicible Fight Girl” I’m surprised the series ¡Mucha Lucha! never came up, since that was an animated series that was about school of wrestlers.

As for this season so far: In “The Cat Who Tipped the Box”, Cake didn’t tip it over because she was regressing into being a regular cat; she was mad at the script the show gave her (“Are all of these just stretch jokes?”). It was a neat character study in how she was trying to redefine herself, but ironically enough, the show wanted to put her in a box (har har). It reminds me of the O.K. K.O. Let’s Be Heroes! episode “Everybody Loves Rad?”, where Rad gains a following because he said an alien colloquial, which lands him a spot in a Hollywood movie that has a pretty stereotypical alien role.

Speaking of Cake, I’ve noticed you haven’t been talking about the ongoing romance between her and M-Cron AKA Lord Monochromicorn AKA the Fionna & Cake counterpart to Lady Rainicorn. It’s been all there in the background and at the front. Did you just forget who that was supposed to be?

Overall, it’s nice hearing your voices again. Happy New Year! Here’s to a good one!

P.S. I’m also with GC13 where I’m perfectly fine with how Fionna was acting and written this season. I knew it would pay off eventually but also I appreciate it when main female characters are messy as hell (that’s part of what made Steven Universe so great)

It’s not that Cake tipped the box because of her cat instincts, she saw the tiny actors as mice which is why she almost attacked that guy.

As for M-Cron, it just hasn’t come up, I guess because we know where it’s headed. But you’ll be happy he gets a mention in the next episode!
