GC13 comes out for another solo episode discussing a favorite theory: that Rose used to be or used to work for Pink Diamond, the missing fourth member of the Great Diamond Authority.
It’s a well-known theory, though less popular in its strict Rose-as-Pink-Diamond form after It Could’ve Been Great. GC13 still hasn’t lost faith in the greatness of Rose, however, though Rose’s greatness would certainly not be diminished if she were a champion of Pink Diamond.
In addition to an overview of the theory there are a couple fun hints from the show, one leading more towards Rose being a champion, the other towards Rose being a Diamond herself. Who knows where the show will take us when it finally makes its reveal?

I said it once and I’ll say I again Rose is NOT Pink Diamond, everything about her, everything we’ve learned points to her being a Defensive Quartz soldier. And from what Peridot said in “Hit the Diamond” she would be related to Yellow Diamond, the controller of all armies. Also this proves my point: https://mobile.twitter.com/ianjq/status/664567803551154176 As well has her very body shape, her broad-shouldered height with long hair and an slightly thinner waste, her big arms and the Gruff present in her voice when she yelled “WHAT?!” During we need to talk. And part of Rose’s puzzle may lie within the Ruby called “Navy” who shares some similarity with her, including soft speech, unique clothing, peaceful attitude, flamboyance\elegance, Gem placement, and interest of earth
GC, the glaring flaw with your Pearl Belonged To White Diamond theory is, of course, that Pearl’s space suit – shown born in Back to the Barn and Space Race – has a giant pink diamond featured prominently on the chest. Given that gem placement doesn’t seem to actual matter at all: Sapphire and Lapis were both Blue Diamond-affiliated and their gem placements bear no relation to Blue Diamonds, and the same goes for eveyr Ruby we’ve seen. To sum up:
1) The Pearl-as-White-Diamond’s-Property is at least visually contradicted by the iconography of the series
2) Gem placement doesn’t matter. I cannot stress this enough – gem placement appearance to have zero diegetic importance and seems to be governed solely by the aesthetic whims of the artists.
You missed the part where Pearls aren’t treated the same as other Gems. The Pearls we’ve seen are made specifically for their owner Gem, where as the Rubies, Lapises and Sapphires aren’t as intrinsically tied to the Diamond they serve. Other Gems can have many different placements, but Pearls are MADE for someone, so those placements would possibly be less coincidental. We know from Peridot that our Pearl is a “fancy one” and the only other Pearls we’ve seen share palette and gem placements with the Diamonds they belong to. Our Pearl has a lot of white in her palette, and her placement matches that of what appears to be White Diamond, who would own a “fancy” Pearl. Gem placement does matter, but only on a case by case basis, and not always in the same way. It can inform a Gem’s personality, like with the Crystal Gems, or in this case it could be their decision to subtly hint at who Pearl belonged to. Also, Gem placement is not changeable, but clothing can be. Pearl having a pink diamond on her space suit could simply be something she adopted after joining Rose, just like the star symbol they all seem to have adopted after Rose died.
Pearl has a light blue ring around her Gem and even light blue eyes, Im sure White Diamond’s Pearl would be a little whiter than she is. Rose is not Pink Diamond, and being a Quartz would not be related to her either, also I’m pretty sure white Diamond would be mad her Pearl got stolen. And that space suit is a mystery in itself as a Pearl, being a dance-y maid type of Gem would not wear one, and Gems do not need one.Rubies would be tied to Yellow Diamond as she controls Military and technology, Lapis Lazulies and Sapphires would be tied to Blue Diamond who likely rules over culture, and the aristocracy. We can infer this no only due to Peridot’s line “Yes, but not everyone has control over ALL the armies of Homeworld waiting for the word to shatter me!” When talking about Yellow Diamond, but their designs as well, as Blue Diamond is dressed in garb and a fancy dress in her mural, while Yellow Diamond is dressed in a body suit with shoulder pads, military-esque high-heeled boots, gloves, and an open dress skirt.
We still don’t know what White Diamond’s, or even Pink Diamond’s, specific domain over Homeworld is, but either or both could require that their Gems have flight suits like Yellow Diamond. Also, after Ruby lands on Earth in “The Answer”, When she has her regular colors shown, we don’t see any Yellow Diamond insignia, so not all Rubies it seems are directly controlled by Yellow Diamond.
Actually, the theory that was proven right by Hit the Diamond states that White Diamond is likely the lawmaker and over all ruler of the Gem-pire, we can see this in her mural as she holds a large orb which, if it serves the same purpose as the planets in the other murals, represents her rule of Homeworld. Pink Diamond likely ruled over Kindergartening. The reproduction of Gem kind. The evidence for this is simply the outcropping of what may be Crystals that grow up behind her in her mural. “ALL the armies of Homeworld”- Peridot Rubies are soldier Gems, an army, Yellow Diamond. This was a different time, its likely they were more lenient on the rule of wearing a Diamond insignia. A rule that changed in modern day, which we see with the squadron of Rubies in Hit the Diamond.
There is no mention of White Diamond or Pink Diamond in “Hit the Diamond”, so no that theory isn’t confirmed at all. Your basing it only on some vague symbols. We have had zero confirmation as to Pink or White’s roles. And just because Yellow Diamond is in control of the armies, doesn’t mean she has to be in control of every Gem designed for physical engagements. A bodyguard isn’t the same as a soldier, and Rubies seem far more like basic bodyguards than soldiers in an army.
Why would bodyguards travel alone looking for someone? A bodyguard can very much be a soldier. Of course it means that all Gems meant for fighting are controlled by her ALL ARMIES means ALL ARMIES. Every Diamond must have their own branch of society to control in order for it to make sense that there would be 3-4 leaders. They would compete otherwise. White Diamond is clearly the top Diamond, so she would be the overall ruler and lawmaker. Looking at the Pink Diamond Gemstone’s real life meaning, being in charge of kindergartens make sense.
Gem placement very much seems to dictate a Gem’s personality, as we see all Gems with head placements be incredibly intelligent while those with chest placements, are angry, and free spirited, which is why they would serve well as those who give orders, and we have seen 3 examples of Gems with navel placements which are kind, soft-spoken, flamboyant and elegant in the stance, see beauty in what others don’t and are generally enthusiastic.
Yes. While Gem placement doesn’t mean that Gem HAS to be a certain way, it is consistently used to stylistically indicate something about that character’s personality.
I don’t think Rose is PD for several reasons, but one thing I want to know is why you think Blue Diamond was in control of Earth? All we hear is that some rebels were halting progress on Earth and a diplomatic mission was sent to quell them. If the Gems are such a wide spread race, then why would the person in charge of one planet accompany a mission of diplomacy? Garnet’s narration in The Answer even refers to Rose’s rebellion as a “small persistent group”. If one of the Diamonds wanted to rebellion, she would have not only have more than a “small group”, but a Diamond rebelling would be a much bigger deal. My theory is that PD was actually destroyed by Rose, and the reason younger Gems like Peridot don’t know much about it is because the Diamonds would want to underplay how effective a non-Diamond was at overthrowing a Diamond. We already have built up Rose as having some greater underlying flaw, and it feels like Rose’s turning point toward rebellion deserves it’s own flashback. There are still plenty of holes in this theory, but to me it just seems like Homeworld’s reaction to the rebellion doesn’t seem consistent with how they would treat a major leader rebelling. Ultimately, there is still far too much we don’t know, and the stuff we do know doesn’t all match up, so we can only wait and watch.
Blue Diamond being in control of Earth is a very interesting situation, because in the mural of Rose doing battle, the gem she’s battling looks most like the representations of White Diamond, who also appears to be the Diamond in charge of the Moon Base, given 1) The White/Clear glass covering the control room (contrasted with the pink tinted room Yellow Diamond was in) and 2) That circular thingie that Steven stopped to look at that appears to be the object White Diamond was holding in her mural portrait in the first room the Crystal Gems entered on the moon base with Lion.
What happened between White/Blue Diamond in regards to control of the Earth, and what happened to Pink Diamond in relationship to Earth, since Rose Quartz definitely seems to belong to Pink Diamond, given her coloring as solid Pink in “The Answer” and her inherent pink-ness.
Thats not a good reason! All the gems were colored based on their color, in that case Rubies belong to RED DIAMOND. As we learned in “Hit the Diamond” Yellow Diamond has control over all the armies of Homeworld. Rose Quartz is a Quartz, so, Yellow Diamond.
We see in “The Answer” that Ruby has no Yellow Diamond insignia, where as the Rubies in Hit the Diamond do, so it seems not all Rubies answer to YD. It’s possible that, while YD may control the overall military force, each Diamond commands their own forces.
Means nothing, this was, after all a different time. Besides no wearing ANY Diamond in signia you would argue they would belong to no Diamond. Yellow Diamond rules the military, Rubies are soldiers, so they would belong to Yellow Diamond, and would only be assigned to others as missions.
The diamond insignia does mean something. And speaking of it being a different time, what if YD wasn’t in charge of the military at that time?
No way, once again for it to make sense that there would be 4 leaders each must rule a branch of society, YD has always ruled over military.
Colors of class aren’t an indicator of who controlled that structure. The Hand ship was green and gave off a green light, yet there aren’t any green diamonds. The Moon base even has the plans for Earth’s colonization, which Pink Diamond would theoretically be in charge of. Beyond the blueish color of some glass, we have no direct indication that BD was in charge of Earth. If Earth was important enough for BD to go to it in person back in The Answer, then why wouldn’t YD, who seems to be in charge of it, not go? Also, If Pink Diamond going missing for whatever reason caused Earth to transfer over to Blue Diamond, why does Yellow Diamond have it now when the symbols they carry indicate Blue Diamond is still an active part of the Diamond Authority?
Blue Diamond was in charge of earth, she was the only Diamond on earth and the sole target of Rose and Pearl the rebels. Plus, since buildings such as the lunar sea spire and arena are cultural, they would have Been installed under her. Yellow Diamond has earth now because Earth became a weapons test site, right up her Ally. I have a theory that the color can indicate the Gem its meant for, The hand ship, escape pod, and facet five computer were green. Used by Peridot. The roaming eye was red. Used by Rubies. Coincidence? I think technology may be color coated based on the Gem meant to use it.
