Don’t forget: a new episode of Steven Universe every day starting Monday

#StevenBomb3 is here, and that means another solid week of Steven! Every day at 6:00 PM EDT we’ll get a brand new episode.

There have actually been two summaries put up this time around, so we’ve selected the simpler ones. Read on if you want the faintest idea of what’s waiting for you when the bomb starts.

If not… Well, know it’s going to be one heck of a ride. The episode summaries may not give much away, but spoilers were being thrown around like candy at San Diego Comic Con. They’re not called Steven bombs for nothing.

What were the “first battles for Earth”?

July 10, 2015

Here we’ve saved the best piece of speculation for last. In Sworn to the Sword, Pearl mentions that the first battles for Earth took place in the sky arena. Rose’s Scabbard makes it rather unlikely that Pearl could be referring to the rebellion, but there’s another possibility: it wasn’t the rebellion that started in the arena, but a contest for the right to colonize the Earth. The most likely opponents for the Gems to face in these opening battles would be humans.

What does We Need to Talk say about Rose Quartz?

Rose Quartz, Intergalactic Gem of Mystery. While she’s a legend in the series, and to the Crystal Gems, we don’t know a whole lot about her. She very carefully managed how others thought of her, and she seems to be thought of very differently by each of the five people/Gems who knew who she was and have given opinions (Amethyst, Garnet, Pearl, Greg, and Jasper if you’re curious whether we counted Ruby and Sapphire separately).

What Are Gems: an informative short from Cartoon Network

pearllecture Cartoon Network has put up a short, informative video about the basics of the Gems’ physical natures, by Ms. Florido and voiced by the show’s voice actors.

It doesn’t contain any information that can’t be gleaned from watching the show: Gems are their gems, which project what is effectively a hologram but with mass. If this form is damaged it is released so the Gem can focus their energy on regenerating, but if the gem itself is damaged things get “weird”.

Most importantly, we now know where the funny little bumper with Garnet chasing Amethyst comes from. 🙂

Season three of Steven Universe officially announced

Ah, so they finally decided to come out and say it: Hollywood Reporter says that Steven Universe, along with several other shows) will be getting an additional season. That brings us up to three seasons, presumably 156 episodes, of the show we love. That’s great news!

With us barely into season two, only starting to see what we’re going to uncover, who can imagine what season three will bring?

PodcastTitle Ken, GC13, Dakota, and special guest Nina from the Toon Goons podcast discuss Bubble Buddies. Still early in the series, how could we have known the kind of continuity we were in for? Except for, of course, watching the opening and seeing this new character appears in it. 🙂

We talk a lot about how much Steven had grown as a character, but Connie has probably grown at least as much. From a rough start almost getting crushed by a falling chunk of temple, she’s already a sword fighting expert.

Steven may like everyone in Beach City, but Connie is his first proper friend. PeeDee and Steven may know each other, but apparently PeeDee is too responsible for Steven.

Don’t forget to check out Nina and the rest of the Toon Goons. They cover not just Steven Universe (which they do often), but many other cartoons both old and new.

Could Rose Quartz be Pink Diamond?

There seems to be more to Rose Quartz, beloved leader of the Crystal Gems, than meets the eye. The series has dropped some pretty heavy hints that she used to be a very important Gem: Pink Diamond. We can’t be sure at this point whether Pink Diamond is her gem type and Rose Quartz is just an assumed name, if Diamond is just a title leaders take, or if leaders go by their own names and Yellow Diamond simply happens to be a diamond.

What we learned from Keeping It Together

July 3, 2015

Giant Woman was our first look at fusion. Coach Steven followed not too long after (though the intervening summer hiatus made it feel a lot longer) and gave us another perspective. Fusion Cuisine showed us a particularly dysfunctional fusion after that.

It wasn’t until Alone Together that Steven, and therefore we the audience, got a close-up look at fusion. While Keeping it Together didn’t take us that close, Garnet still explained a bit about fusion that makes Alone Together easier to understand.
