Ratings for Friend Ship

Well, the upward march couldn’t last forever. Friend Ship got 1,647,000 viewers (though it did very well against the other cable-wide Friday premiers).

Lunar Sea Spire episode 39: #StevenBomb3

PodcastTitleStevenBomb3GC13 and Dakota blast off at the speed of light to recap #StevenBomb3. It wasn’t the heavy face-punch of plot that was the first #StevenBomb, but it was still a good run, wouldn’t you say?

The way the episodes fit together is discussed (this is definitely a five-episode story arc), as is Peridot’s propensity for escape (though there’s no consensus on which of her two escapes in Friend Ship was more believable).

Keystone Motel makes us realize just how little we know about the homeworld Gems: while we no longer believe Ruby and Sapphire to be artisans, it’s hard making educated guesses about what their actual roles are. Ruby does seem to be quite a bit more “expendable” than Sapphire though, with the temperament of a fighter.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 38: Friend Ship

PodcastTitleStevenBomb3GC13, Ken, and Hunter discuss the fifth episode of #StevenBomb3, the end of the #WeekOfSardonyx: Friend Ship.

Finally, Pearl should be back to normal after being quite frustrating to watch during this episode. The resolution of her stress, from Cry For Help came quickly but believably. To compensate for Pearl’s normalcy Peridot has made it official that she is now a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

“This planet has an expiration date.” “I’m just a Pearl.” There was a lot of interesting information in this episode, not all of it easily quotable. The future of Steven Universe promises to do some really good world building, if Friend Ship is any indication of what the crew is preparing to reveal.

Immediate reaction to Friend Ship

Ooooh, this one has some really good nuggets in it. Pearl confirms a bit of what we figured about the role Pearls fill in Gem society, we learn about ancient Gem space travel, and we learn that the Crystal Gems never went through with obliterating the Galaxy Warp.

Also, dark implications about Earth’s impending fate… What could the homeworld be cooking up?

Ratings for Historical Friction

The upward climb continues: 1,877,000 viewers watched Historical Friction. Probably because they heard that Pearl was credited in the play, we’re sure.

Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 37: Historical Friction

PodcastTitleStevenBomb3GC13, Ken, and Hunter discuss the fourth episode of #StevenBomb3 and your much-needed Dose of Dewey: Historical Friction.

The merits of both versions of the scripts are discussed, as are the implications for the history of Steven’s Earth that a few details in the episode give. How inhabited were the Americas before settlers from the east arrived? Were settlements really started so much later in Steven’s timeline than ours?

Jamie’s costumes are masterful, but there isn’t yet a conclusive answer on the identity of the mystery fusion who saved William Dewey.

Also, as of this episode, there is a new headcanon for Suitcase Sam: he used to portray Little Butler in the hit sitcom until he hit a growth spurt and they had to cancel the show.

Aivi and Surasshu post: Reconcilliation

This time from Keystone Motel, Aivi and Surasshu have posted Reconcilliation (1:32) for us to enjoy.

Immediate reaction to Historical Friction

First of all, it’s great to see another Mayor Dewey episode. He’s the Internet’s mayor, after all, so he’s always a welcome presence. The script he turned in was pure gold (though perhaps not for the reasons he thought it would be).

The final script also told us some, and considering its source we can take it as broadly accurate. There are some tantalizing tidbits of lore that this episode hinted at: how long Beach City has been founded, and the uneven distribution of monsters across the world (basically to combine with what Rising Tides, Crashing Skies had to say).

Ratings for Onion Friend

Well, now we have enough episodes to make a trend, and it’s looking up: Onion Friend brought in 1,827,000 viewers last night.
