Ratings for Barn Mates

Impressively, despite getting little to no advertising compared to some of the other shows (Steven Universe and Regular Show got little to no advertising, and Adventure Time got precious little), Barn Mates did well enough for Steven Universe to again top the Cartoon Network premiers this week with 1,371,000 viewers. Good on you, Crewniverse.

Here’s how the premiers did this week:

  1. Steven Universe at 7:00 PM with 1,371,000
  2. Adventure Time at 7:30 PM with 1,355,000
  3. Regular Show at 7:45 PM with 1,352,000
  4. Powerpuff Girls at 6:30 PM with 1,267,000
  5. Teen Titans Go! at 6:00 PM with 1,267,000 (a tie)
  6. Clarence at 5:30 PM with 1,071,000
  7. Amazing World of Gumball at 5:00 PM with 1,051,000

Immediate reaction to Barn Mates

This isn’t a lore episode, it’s a character building episode. Lapis is here for the long haul, and even though there have been dozens of episodes since she appeared she’s only starting to get her character developed.

That’s okay though! We love lore, but we love it best when it’s revealed to and by characters we’ve become invested in over time.

PodcastTitleGC13 and Hunter discuss the first episode of Steven Universe where Lapis has actually been happy: Same Old World.

There’s a flashback with lots of interesting goodies (including a Gem who has intrigued the fanbase and we hope to see again), as well as a bright future ahead for Lapis and Peridot (who may either become a farmer or simply work at the Big Donut).

It also had some very interesting animation, some very big hair, and was the first in-show appearance of Steven’s new hot dog duffel bag from the online short. We’re calling this a huzzah!

Flashbacks are great: they’re typically very pertinent to our interests, being about stuff we’ve wanted to know about for a while. We can also hope they might foreshadow the arrival of new characters.

What we learned from Same Old World

We got our flashback, and we’re going to work it for all it’s worth. The fandom is abuzz with musings about a particular Gem in those flashbacks, but we won’t be wondering about her until tomorrow. Same Old World got 1,399,000 viewers. It’s not as impressive as last week’s premier of the Same Old World event, but it was still enough to put Steven Universe in the number one spot again.
