Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 69: #StevenBomb4

PodcastTitleStevenBomb4GC13 and Sophia recap #StevenBomb4. It was definitely one heck of a way to end a three-month-long hiatus, and dropped some pretty big plot bombs on us. Two Diamonds, a drawing of a third, two Pearls, many Gem silhouettes, some new Gem installations… It was very good as a late present to the fandom.

It’s a lot to take in, but it sure was one heck of a ride.

Where do we go from here? Onto a break, but for how long? #StevenBomb2.0 had us go on break for about a month then right back into #StevenBomb3. We’d really prefer weekly episodes, but if the new episodes are in #StevenBomb5 then we’ll be there.

About being nostalgic about the early season 1 episodes, “It Could Have Been Great” brought me back to that feeling, since it’s been a long while since we had the Gems exploring an old Gem structure, with the only exception being Friend Ship. However, while we know we’ve seen most of the Gem structures on Earth, there are two more we haven’t seen, so there’s potential there.

What did Sophia mean about Too Far being a bad Bomb ending because of a shipping war? I don’t follow the online fandom that closely, at least not recently, so I don’t know what could have caused this.

I try and avoid shipping wars as much as possible since I think they’re stupid and besides the actual point of shipping as a whole… but anyway:

Probably one of the most popular non canonical ships in SU is pearlmethyst (Pearl x Amethyst), I’m saying this to the best of my objective observation, not because I’m an avid shipper myself I promise. Like anything popular enough this ship had a good amount of haters too. And when the whole Peridot straddling Amethyst thing in Too Far happened people went after pearlmeth saying the ship was dead and pearlmethyst shippers got defensive and butthurt and attacked amedot in return. It went on, for weeks. Most of this was isolated to tumblr though (as always), and everyone’s tumblr experience is a little different but this is me documenting what I observed happening.

Even though it’s been months I still see occasional hate flair up (I’m looking at you, triangle-mother) but for the most part I’m glad people have shut up about it.

      sighs for 1000 years

Don’t forget we saw Pink Diamond’s talk skinny none Rose-like legs for a second. Theory’s crashing and burning.

I don’t think this is true, but wouldn’t it be funny if all the diamonds looked like Rose and they have just been stretching themselves when others are around? LOL! Like Steven did in his birthday. Maybe that explains YellowD’s neck 😉

You have a race that can shapeshift at will, and leaders who Ronaldo specifically said can take any form, and your killer fact against the theory is how her legs look?

Sure, her Gem’s face isn’t a rhombus, but there are a lot of narrative hints that Steven (and therefore Rose) is a ruler of some sort.

The depictions of Blue and Yellow Diamond match their current or at least currently known appearance. There is no reason at all to believe that Pink Diamond would choose to present herself as a Quartz, especially from how Amethyst says that holding a shapeshift for a long time is unhealthy, and how Peridot says that it consumes lots of energy.

Plus, Peridot was able to recognize Steven on sight as a Quartz without even knowing anything about him during When it Rains, and she had no interest in the fact that his mom was Rose Quartz. With how highly she speaks of Diamonds, it’s hard to believe that even a traitor diamond would elicit such disdain from the characters.

There’s no reason why Peridot wouldn’t have confirmed that Rose was a Diamond during Could’ve Been Great and Message Recieved if it were true. There ARE several reasons to believe that Rose was a “ruler”, but at this point there’s just MORE evidence AGAINST her being a Diamond, per say. Her outright being called a Quartz, the Guide to the Crystal Gems states that her Gem type is Quartz, if she was a Diamond and they wanted to have a big reveal, she wouldn’t have even gotten a profile in the book, her appearance differing from the mural’s legs, and differing from all of the statues in the cloud arena. At this point, I’m only willing to believe that she was the Gem Military’s general, if even that.

Plus during The Answer, I think that a renegade Diamond would elicit more explination than “a small persistent group of rebels”. I’m pretty sure that even if there were going to be a big “Rose is a Diamond” reveal, there would still be some kind of hinting toward Pink Diamond before now.

We have no reason to believe that Pink Diamond isn’t on Homeworld right now, to be fair. The only thing we know is that the symbol in Peridot’s ship excludes pink, but that could mean anything.

GC I’m not going to pester you or try to convince you that Rose isn’t PD, but I’m curious what evidence you’ve seen for the theory that you find so compelling? What makes you still believe in it even with evidence piling up against it?

I feel like the world building episodes always progressed the show or gave hints just as they do now. I just think we are a lot more aware of it.

You know what would be an amazing plot device? What if Yellow Diamond sends a Homeworld Rose Quartz to destroy Peridot. Like…the Crystal Gems having to fight a Homeworld bred Rose Quartz.

Once we see a Homeworld bred Rose, the Pink Diamond theory ceases to exist.

I’m so mad at cartoon network. They tease me with that leak and expect me to sit through another hiatus waiting for “the thing” to happen.

Sofia: “There are TWO shows in the show…”

Ahem…here we go. All the currently known TV shows from Steven Universe thus far.

Camp Pining Hearts, Crying Breakfast Friends, Under the Knife, Little Butler, The Dog Copter movie franchise, and Canine Court.

To be fair, Crying Breakfast Friends is really more of a lifestyle, Dogcopter is a movie franchise rather than a TV show, Under the Knife was never shown, and Canine Court is an (awesome) joke.

If you’re counting movies you missed Lonely Blade

The only Steven Bomb that I’ll accept is #WeekOfMalachiteRedemption

Yo. I recently discovered your podcast and had a lot of fun skimming through some of the older episodes. You guys are doing a really great job at both entertaining and informing about SU and the going-ons around it. Keep up the good work! :]
