Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 49: Catch and Release

PodcastTitleGC13, Ken, Sophia, and Hunter do a little bit of late-night recording to discuss the very exciting new episode of Steven Universe: Catch and Release.

Who could fail to be thrilled by the prospect of Peridot becoming Green Mom? Nobody, not even a heartless podcaster who doesn’t love Centipeetle.

There’s just so much to wonder about: the form the Cluster will take, the fate of Peridot’s limb enhancers, and why Peridot is so adorable and smol! The Crystal Gems look awesome, and Peridot is one playful kitty.

A special shoutout to some fan art: MisterGrey’s fan art of our Pearl and some homeworld Pearls was mentioned in this episode of the podcast, so check it out. Aren’t they all just adorbable?

If there’s anything to go on especially from what we’ve seen in Sky Arena, each of the Diamonds represented a specific part of Gem power structure, based on the statues:

Yellow Diamond carried a sword, a weapon that requires critical thinking, concentration and finese: a weapon of one who uses intellect.
White Diamond a staff/spear, a weapon of elders, spiritual leaders, of one who has come to grow strong through experiance that they try to bestow upon others and rule through it: a weapon of one who uses wisdom.
Blue Diamond carried a mace, a weapon of force, the breaker and destroyer, the Unstopable Force: a weapon of one who uses strength.

As for the missing link, the statue that was shattered:

Rose Quartz/Diamond carried a shield, the Immovable Object, while a weapon it is ultimately used to defend: a weapon of one who would protect others from harm.

With that we can assume that Yellow DIamond is responsible for technological advancment, Blue Diamond controlled the military, White Diamond lead the “priesthood” and Rose was responsible for protecting Gemkind from outside forces.

Also, this brings in question the destructive powers of Triumvirate. Remember the training ground in Rose’s Armory? The training droid was phasing between ice, fire and lightning.
It’s likely the Diamond are able to use the same abilities, considering that Rose herself had to power over Earth and Nature, so Yellow Diamond controlled electricity, White Diamond used Fire and Blue Diamond wielded Ice.

Also, the sign of 4 Diamonds in Sky arena resembles NFPA panel, except that it’s reversed.

remember how Pearl is tracking Peridot, using her tecnology.

so if they ever need Peridot´s gear, Pearl could do it.

other thing i imagined was Ronaldo taking that part of the ship, i don´t remember which episode, could return in some way.

Also, Pearly tried to spear in the face Peridot before in the least Sardonxy week episode, these two are realy going to the kill.

amethyst had some serious “jbf” hair… (also after saying she was going to go to her room to “”eat garbage””. wink wink nudge nudge lol)

peridot is so cute. i want to marry her. we can be tiny together.

i’m almost expecting peridot to betray them because it seems to early for her to join? if that happens i will be sorely disappointed though. i want more keylime pie mom.
i miss her weird floaty fingers and i feel like her anatomy looks strange now. i hope she either gets her prosthetics* back or she makes something better that she uses to help the crystal gems.
(*i know what she calls them but i’m still very into the human au in which she has actual prosthetics)

the cocaine jokes oh my god i cant breathe it’s too early to laugh this hard…

I’m still in the camp of Steven can’t actually fuse with Gems at all. He’s organic, so it makes sense to me that he can fuse with other organic beings, but it’s hard to see that working with the Gem’s illusionary bodies.

That’s where I’m puttin’ my eggs, no Steven-Gem fusions. I don’t mind being wrong, but it just fits to the show’s internal logic better I think.

      • 0xalis on September 29, 2015 at 2:19 am

I agree, but it’s so disappointing. I want to see the temple gem fusion. And baby rainbow quartz…. But as you said it makes more sense with the logic.

If they have more noncorrupted gems in the temple I think they would be in suspended animation. Not dead, not alive. I also believe that if Peridot guitars worth one of the crystal gems it would be Pearl, to make one super smart gem to figure out a way to stop the cluster.

    Fuses not guitar

Guys, You gotta stop with he assumptions these “Homeworld Pearls” “Rubies and Sapphires” “Peridots” etc stop acting like its all confirmed because it AINT. There is only one of each gem the gem is their person and you can’t have more than one of the same person color varieties are a thing yes. But not the exact same ones. I HIGHLY doubt Whtie Diamond is based on any religion she might just be the overall ruler. Rose aint pink Diamond until it is said she is…..

I’m pretty sure they’re willing to accept if they’re proven wrong by canon later on dude… This entire website is filled with speculative stuff like this, you must be late to the party? Chill tbh

    1. Yeah, seriously, what we’re all saying here is speculation. If we all started treating what we said as facts, then I don’t think we’d have very much to talk about, now would we?

So, yeah, relax, dude, no need for such hostility.

One reason I doubt the Geode contains the Cluster is that the Crystal Gems seemed to know what the Geode was, but had no idea what the Cluster was when it was brought up. It’s also worth noting that the ground surrounding the Geode looks like a crash site. My guess is that it is some kind of gem bomb from the war that was a dud.

While I like the idea that the show is all Garnet’s future vision, it would be weird that Garnet would see all this and still make the mistakes she does.

And as for Ken not caring about the Centipeedle, whether you like the Centipeedle or not, she is the primary focus of a very important subplot, the fate of the corrupted Gems. The Gems have recently been more focused on Malachite, Peridot and the Cluster, but the Centipeedle and by extension the other Gem monsters being uncorrupted is a hug loose end that they will inevitably come back to. And Ken usually favors character interactions over lore, and the monster Gems are a plethora of unexplored characters to experience.

My guess is that it is some kind of gem bomb from the war that was a dud.

Now that is an interesting idea. What if the Geode is the Cluster, and the reason the Crystal Gems are convinced that it’s a synthetic storm that will unleash mass destruction if it cracks is because the orbital attack that ended the war was delivered in the same kind of container?

That way the homeworld gets rid of the Crystal Gems from orbit, but if there are any survivors (which it turned out there are) they definitely don’t want to tamper with the science experiment. Clever girls.

I’d still think the Cluster would be more likely to be in the Kindergarten though. That’s where the samples are, and that’s where the homeworld has all of their gem-making infrastructure. (Though I suppose if they’re hauling it off-world to launch it, they could have put the Cluster together off-world too.)

Yea I meant to acknowledge that obviously the show *needs* to address the Centipeedle for the sake of its narrative. I am just personally indifferent to Centipeedle as a character (which I am sure many people will wrongly interpret as “I hate Centipeedle”, but there’s nothing to be done about that). I could have done a better job conveying my thoughts in any case.

OMG I had that same theory about at the end of the series, it all being Garnet’s future vision. I was thinking about that a while ago

I believe the correct term is triangle mom (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

No, all moms must be mono-syllabic!

Besides, if I had to call her Triangle Mom in an episode of the podcast I’d probably start singing about Particle Mom, and how she used to be more than just particles before she had a fight with Triangle Mom (who won).
