Immediate reaction to The Return and Jail Break

It was a long wait, but the season finale finally came.

The Return gave us a brief confirmation of a lot of what we had suspected about Gemkind: Steven basically figured out what we had figured out a long time ago about why the Gems came to Earth. We also learned that even if the official records don’t show what happened to Earth, at least some Gems on the homeworld remember.

Jail Break also directly confirmed that some Gems are stronger than others, again something we were able to infer from looking at the implied strength of Rose Quartz. That jam was also worth every bit of anticipation.

So we have the season-two premier coming up tomorrow, then we’ll have to sit down and do the hard work of parsing all of this. We can already guess at least some of what’s going to happen in season two, though Full Disclosure should hopefully tell us a bit more. Implications… Awe-inspiring.

We just wrapped up recording. Man, it was so fun to talk about. I’m going to try to post it early if I can.

To be fair, it’s not that some gems are stronger than others absolutely. It’s that, as has been demonstrated on this show, the gems have their specialized strengths and weaknesses (throughout and through-in).

Perhaps some are more physically strong than others…but even then that’s shown to be a multifaceted balanced show of different physical strengths: from hard hitting physicality, to agile physicality, to being a defensive shielding type of physical strength.

I noticed how the thing that separated garnet into ruby and Sapphire seemed to have a gem powering it. Perhaps it works the same as lapis lazuli powering the mirror…. Hmmm so much to process. Also, there needs to be an emerald in there somewhere.

I don’t see any kind of gem powering it. The orb near the forks dissipates as Garnet breaks it, so it probably functions as some sort of “capacitor” that keeps the charge near the business end of the weapon.
