Immediate reaction to Joy Ride

Well happy days! We may not have got everything we wanted out of Joy Ride, but we’re super-glad about at least one thing it set in motion. (Don’t get too excited though, eh?) It’s also great to have confirmation on Sour Cream’s relation to Onion: they’re step-brothers.

Nothing too lore-heavy in this episode, just a big “watch out!” for future events. Plus, a close look at some very neat Gem technology.

  1. I think at this rate it’ll be a while before we ever see Peridot again. I wonder what she’s up to. Unless she can summon those robodrones of her at will, then I’d imagine there’s nothing she can do at the moment, which probably won’t sit well with her.

It’s the first step in a process. I’m actually heartened that they did it as episode two of the season: that means they might want to get the ball rolling quickly because they’re going to need a fair few episodes to character-arc her towards the Crystal Gems. Or, at the very least, she won’t be sitting on Earth doing nothing.

      1. Then it’ll be one tough process, considering we have no idea as to where she went, or even what she’s trying to do now. Maybe that ship of hers will provide some answers?

I would love to see Peridot coming back. What if she’s just living in the wild and attacks the gems with advanced technology made of tree bark and woven vines X3

If Pearl, some off-the-shelf Gem from thousands of years ago, could make a functional space ship capable of near-speed-of-light flight out of old airplane parts and distill and mix powerful rocket fuel in two liter bottles, then who’s to say that Peridot, a modern Gem with even more technological know-how, can’t make an advanced battle mech out of vines and rocks?

I’ll bet she could even make a hovercraft out of pine cones and pipe cleaners! 😉

I believe it’s quite possible that Peridot went to the Kindergarten, possibly to reactivate it? o_O

I agree with you, Jacob. She wanted to reactivate it anyway, she was halfway there, and if she can manage it she could likely (at least try) to destroy the crystal gems with a small manufactured army. I’d make a B line for it, personally, and we saw that the giant rovenoid can make little ones so it shouldn’t be hard to fix assuming she can salvage that one droid. I keep wondering why they didn’t check there immediately, but I guess she’d have to make it to a warp pad first. The closest one is in the temple, I wonder if she’ll be brave enough to break in or if she’ll make the trek to the next closest one, which is likely still quite far.

Sour Cream and Onion could share a mom, making them half-brothers. It’s also possible that Onion’s dad is his step-father as well.
