Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 86: Lion 3: Straight to Video

PodcastTitleGC13, Sophia, and Hunter discuss, in a wonderful coincidence, the closest thing Steven Universe has to a Mother’s Day special: Lion 3: Straight to Video.

It’s an adorable episode, with lots of wonderful cat humor coming from the interaction of Steven and Lion. Plus Pearl sometimes watches Steven sleep—and by sometimes we mean often.

Steven finally learns a bit of what his mother is like, and Sadie appreciates her own mother a bit more. Us? We’re happy to have this early look at Barb’s character, which matches up with her behavior in Sadie’s Song.

What is Lion, anyway? That’s an answer we might just get some day.

    * The music in this episode is top-notch. “The Pitch Got Delayed” (the Dogcopter dream) is a great goofy track, and “Lion’s Mane” is perfectly off-putting (I did not know until reading on the wiki that it’s Rose’s theme backwards, then forwards).
    * In contrast to last week, the head-in-head-out bit was a hilarious Family Guy-style overly-long gag.
    * The Dog-Nut appeared in the Pilot, so not sure which one out of Sugar and IJQ came up with it and which one borrowed it.
    * If this is blowing a small detail out of proportion, it is only because this show trains us to do so: It really seems like Sadie recognizes Rose’s voice! She immediately says “Steven! That voice!” as a declaration, not a question, seemingly with no advance idea of what the tape was about.
    * In terms of Emmy nominations, I was curious so I looked it up. In order to be eligible for a Primetime Emmy, you have to air after 6pm. So it seems nothing from the original StevenBomb was eligible. The window runs from June to May, so I’d expect either “Sworn to the Sword” or something from In Too Deep to get put up for nomination this year (since the Birthday Week aired at 5:30pm).

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaand STAR WIPE.

Lapis’ gem also doesn’t look like actual Lapis lazuli, so it looking like Bizmuth doesn’t guarantee it’s Bizmuth. Also, Steven putting his hand on Lars’ chest was from Lars and the Cool Kids.

Yes it does. It comes in it’s trademark color and even it’s trademark teardrop cut. http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/steven-universe/images/8/83/Lapis_lazuli_irl.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150926012320

Lapis’ gem doesn’t have the golden/yellow flecks that the actual lapis lazuli has.

To respond to Jon P you say that Sadie declares its rose without a second thought but if we think about it Sadie is at least 19 years of age and Steven is 13 at this point so at some point Sadie may have encountered rose just a musing an idea

  1. Saw “Jake the brick” and let me tell you, it did not deserve an emmy. (in my opinion)
