Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 38: Friend Ship

PodcastTitleStevenBomb3GC13, Ken, and Hunter discuss the fifth episode of #StevenBomb3, the end of the #WeekOfSardonyx: Friend Ship.

Finally, Pearl should be back to normal after being quite frustrating to watch during this episode. The resolution of her stress, from Cry For Help came quickly but believably. To compensate for Pearl’s normalcy Peridot has made it official that she is now a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

“This planet has an expiration date.” “I’m just a Pearl.” There was a lot of interesting information in this episode, not all of it easily quotable. The future of Steven Universe promises to do some really good world building, if Friend Ship is any indication of what the crew is preparing to reveal.

In defense of that line Steven sung in the extended intro, he is young and its typical for children to have unrealistic ambitions when your young. I know I did, but I do hope he goes through and Identitiy crisis cause that would be amazing! I am surprised Amethyst didnt do the spin thing to break that cog to save Garnet and Pearl. I just thought that was weird. Maybe they are rebuilding a diamond since rose beat one of them and since they are supposedly the strongest gem it will take almost all of the resources left on earth to make it thus destroying earth? Maybe, probably not, but who knows at the moment. If you guys could see any Gem besides the ones we have seen and Yellow Daimond who would it be and why?

I guess I’d like to see a Steven + Pearl fusion (unless its just Rainbow Quartz again).

I think the Gem I want to see soon is Onyx, I think that would be a cool new Gem.
I hope Steven and Pearl fuse into something different too, not that I don’t like rainbow quarts but I would like to see more fun designs.

I really want an episode where Steven masters his plant powers by going with Ronaldo to a Planty convention dressed as Baby Melon.

I dont think that Connie will get Roses sword until she gets closure with her parents. Perhaps they move to Beach City and finally learn about all of this magic stuff. Stevonnie saves the day and they see that Connie is growing up.

Hi I’m a fan and I was wondering if you you could do reviews on the episodes, Stevens lion, mirror gem, ocean gem, lion 2: the movie, lion 3: the video, and the inderect kiss. I know it’s a lot but the please me very much. I was also thinking that you guys could make a Q&A episode. I also have a theory on pearls outfits, it’s pretty weak but hey why not? So the theory is base on pearls outfit, all of pearls forms have pink in it which shows her loyalty to rose but in her newest outfit it has less pink, is that showing that she is growing over rose and is giving her loyalty and trust to Steven? Plus there’s WAY more yellow in pearls outfit , which is the color of Stevens star.

For now we are just going in order or the episode releases, which means ‘Steven’s Lion’ should get done in 2 weeks, and there will be a long wait for the others you mentioned. Maybe going in order isn’t the best way to tackle it, I’m not sure. I’ll at least bring it up to the others. As far as a Q&A episode, if that’s something more people want us to do I’m sure we’d be happy to do it, but I don’t know what people could possibly want to ask us. It’s not like we work on the show and have relevant answers to burning questions.

When jasper said your “A lost and defective pearl” my theory is that pearl had a birth defect which made her gem and oval because normal pearls are spheres not ovals. And because of her defect she was thought less of then all the rest of the pearls. Because of that pearl was lost probably because none of the diamonds would want her as their servants because of her defect, but rose quartz (pink diamond) saw the beauty in everything so she picked pearl to be one of her servants. As they grew to know each other more they became best friends and from that day on pearl would take orders from rose. But since rose is gone she now follows garnets commands because garnet is the alpha of the crystal gems. So that is my theory.

I actually greatly appreciated the Saturday Morning Cartoon vibe of this episode. This season we’ve had a several lack of the Gems fighting something as a team and going to new Gem places. As for the status quoe, I felt that, while Peridot continues to be on the loose, the real change that I expect us to see the results of soon is Pearl’s attitude. I expect us to see a far more determined and confident Pearl, and that has the potential to bring a lot of change. I never expected them to catch Peridot, that is the kind of thing that would happen in the middle of a two-parter. As for her acting extreme in this episode, this is the first we’ve seen of her in the field after “Cry For Help”, and with her goal literally in sight, it make sense for her to be amped up. While I enjoy Peridot as an unserious wacky villain, I also am expecting for it to set us up for the serious threat of Yellow Diamond, kind of like the Ginyu Force in comparison to Freeza.
