Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 9: The Return and Jailbreak

PodcastTitleStevenBombGC13, Dakota, Ken, and Hunter discuss the big season-one finale of Steven Universe: The Return and Jailbreak. It happened, and it was huge.

There’s so much to talk about in this episode that it’s hard to list. Jasper as a villain, the relative strength of Peridot’s ship compared to other homeworld ships, the Planet of the Pearls, the imprisonment of Malachite, how much everyone loves Stronger Than You, and so much more.

There’s also a fanart backlog building up: Viking Pearl, Batman Dewey, and now a version of Sapphire crossed over with Alice from Alice: Madness Returns.

You forgot the countdown of Full Disclosure.

Sorry, way too much Steven competing for brainspace! Thanks for letting me at least get the last few hours in!

Actually if you pay close attention to detail on Opal you’ll notice that her design does look slightly different to accommodate Pearl’s new outfit.

Opal has a sash now, just like Pearl

Did you guys realize that the Gem Destabilizers look like tuning forks. Vibrations are used to break crystals

Well, on Peridot’s ship there was a symbol with an interlocked Yellow, Blue, and White triangle. So we can assume that there is Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond, and White Diamond (or just Diamond as a fusion of the two).

Also, if you remember the wall murals from Serious Steven, Rose was fighting THREE gems. One was probably White Diamond (the center one) and the ones floating in front of the sun and moon, respectively, were probably Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond.

    My Pearl Theory:

Pearls are gems made to be assistants and aids to other more powerful gems. They are programmed to be subservient and clingy to their masters.

The Pearl we know and love a whole bunch was Rose’s personal Pearl (she refers to her as “My Pearl…” during the holo-flashback in Rose’s Scabbard) and that’s why she worshiped her so much.

Pearls are not programmed to go against Gem authority, so the fact that one was rebelling against the Diamond Triad (Yellow, Blue, and White Diamond) was odd, making her “defective and lost”. Lost may also refer to the fact that she now has no master.

    Maybe even Pearl herself doesn’t know she’s just an off-the-shelf product…! :U

I had the exact same thought when Jasper said that line.

Peridot is now on earth. Let’s make bets on how soon Steven will befriend her.

    • Bearmonify on March 13, 2015 at 8:19 am

Peridot is on earth. Now we will find her in the Canadian wilderness (that’s where she was heading toward when she escaped) and she will have advanced technology made of twigs and stuff).

    Also, my theory on Steven:

Steven is the fusion of Rose and Greg’s…um…genetic material…?

Also, since Steven is organic, his shapeshifts are living and real (the cat fingers being real cats) so if he shapeshifted into Rose, would it actually be Rose until the shapeshift ends?

Garnet’s outfit change is subtle, but good!

Her star stripe is thicker and her shoulder pads are pointy now. Garnet’s hair also looks kinda different…somehow.

Now Amethyst needs an outfit change.

I definitely think that Lapis and Jasper are coming back one day.

It’s not that she doesnt’ hold animosity toward the crystal gems, it’s just that she holds MORE animosity toward homeworld gems than them.

Opal’s outfit had a shash now, since Pearl has a sash now.

In regards to the fusion being disrupted, I think that the disruptor acting as a “one hit kill” is pretty accurate. It splits up all fusions and returns all gems involved to their stones.

    Full Disclosure:

Steven recaps the series and gem-lore to Connie / Steven and Connie recap the series and gem-lore to her parents.

    Also…calling it now:

    Anti-Gem race = Metals

Calling it that there’s at least one imprisoned on Homeworld.

I totally agree that Jasper’s remarks mean that there are multiples of gem types but I’m pretty sure she said “lost, defected, pearl” to defect means you abandoned your country or cause in favor of the opposition which she clearly did. She’s not broken, but she did betray her people.

Btw I’ve watched jailbreak about five times since it came out just for Garnet, ruby and sapphire. LOVED it when they came back together and their dancing was… <3

For me, the most exciting thing that we're left with (besides garnet) was that now we have three Gems on earth with unknown or potentially fluctuating allegiances. I don't suspect that we've seen the last of Japer, Peridot, or Lapis.

So, interesting fact. Wikipedia is referring to Ruby as a “he” instead of a “she”. Granted, this is Wikipedia, but still, seriously?

It looks like they’ve finally agreed to refer to Ruby and Jasper as female, just like they finally accepted the fact that Full Disclosure is in season two.
