Lunar Sea Spire podcast episode 199: Heart of the Crystal Gems

GC13, Isabelle, and David finally get to discuss the bomb itself, probably the biggest one to date.

Phenomenal. Whatever you think about Monday through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday definitely delivered the goods. (Though Ruby is certainly adorbable as always.) If you haven’t seen the bomb yet, you’re missing out!

What did you think about the bomb? What did you think about– Well, no spoilers here, but you probably know some stuff that would be great to discuss. 🙂

Rose tried to pass as an Amethyst at first, not a Rose Quartz. What does a *real* Rose Quartz look like? And that begs the question, did Pink specifically create the Rose Quartz cut of Gem just to help corroborate her story? Did she make them JUST to bubble them? They were in pink colored Gem Bubbles, so Pink is the only one who could’ve possibly done it since all the other Rose Quartz Gems were put away. Also, where are the Rose Quartz manufactured? The Prime Kindergarten seems to only produce Amethyst and the Beta Kindergarten seems to exclusively make Jasper and Carnelian, Gems that share the coloration of the deposits in the ground. ARE those even Gems? Or are they all just fake Gems that Pink made just to bubble? If you pop one will it just be a useless rock?

These are all very good questions. Answer us, Pink!

    About “getting” “What’s Your Problem?”
First, it’s intended as a fake-out, so some of Amethyst’s portrayal is because the writers wanted us to get the wrong idea.

Second, it’s not a development episode, in that Amethyst is not any different at the end from what she is at the beginning. It’s a check-in, displaying changes she’s already made. “Earthlings” was the same way, where Amethyst didn’t change in the episode, just got to show off her character growth.

About Steven going to sleep to talk to the Cluster: it’s to remind people of Steven’s astral projection powers before he uses the evolved form against the Diamonds in the end sequence.

Seems like the likely culprit. Still waiting on Steven to visit me in my dreamspace.

I think that Steven entering the role of Pink Diamond will be a good reintroduction to the conflict of the first few seasons with Steven once again trying to measure up to the expectations held to him.

Also, welcome to Era 3 😀

    Nice talk, guys! Great discussion!

Seeing the way this series has turned out, a lot of particular videos I know have aged horribly in terms of the characters Rose and the Diamonds.

Also, in response to the Craig of the Creek episode a while back: A lot of people are saying this show is like Hey Arnold!, when it’s obviously the spiritual successor to Disney’s Recess. Think about it:

The kids live suburban neighborhoods AND most importantly, the shows both deal with a setting where each of the kids are in different cliques/divisions. Just something that was bothering me. XD

Yes, I *loved* Hey Arnold!, and that theme made me particularly fond of CotC. One of the best aspects of HA, Helga Pataki, has yet to be recreated as a character archetype in the modern cartoon-scape, though.
